News!!

We have had great XMas shows for our "Yes, we still call it Christmas tour" But man you should have seen the after party at Roxy's in the Silver Legacy.  Our Hosts Bobby and Stan (Sax and Piano) could not have been more gracious.  Bobby brought his sax and joined us for an earlier gig and brought the house down and then we joined him and Stan after the show at Roxys.  We started at happy hour and closed the joint.  People were lined up 12 deep just to hear the after hours jam session.  For us...this was living the dream.  It was such a blast, I believe we discovered a whole new line up of celebrities. Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscapo and Stevie Wonder even Jammed with us!

It’s the Frank Sinatra Showroom at the Cal Neva. The lights go down and
Dean, Frank and Sammy take the stage. No, this is not just a fantasy
jaunt down memory lane. The Rat Pack comes alive, once again through The
Dean-O-Holics, a tribute to the good old days out of the Sacramento
area. The group is a throw back to the days of martinis, songs and
jokes, long prior to the days of political correctness.
The origin of the group reads like a Cinderella story. Four years ago,
Bob Caudle (Dino), owner of a DJ business and event facility, was on a
cruise with his family. Caudle entered a blackjack tournament aboard the
ship, which he won. Afterwards, he wandered in to the bar to have a few
and was, unbeknownst to him, signed up to sing karaoke. Caudle had
dabbled in the past with a bit of karaoke Dean, but usually needed some
liquid encouragement to get him going. After whetting his whistle,
Caudle took the stage with his rendition of “Everybody Loves Somebody
Sometime,” a Martin staple. He brought the house down and a while later
a bottle of champagne was brought over to his table.
At first Caudle thought the champagne was an additional prize from the
tournament, but was informed instead that he had qualified as a finalist
in the ship’s Princess Idol competition. For the finals he grabbed his
dad’s old tuxedo along with a few cocktails and after a little singing
and ad libbing, Caudle won the contest. As fate would have it, there was
a corporate party planner in the audience who was anxious to book
Caudle’s Dean for a casino night she had coming up. The rest simply fell
into place.
Caudle was able to connect with local talent in his area to complete his
Rat Pack arsenal. The popularity of the group and the songs from that
period propelled The Dean-OHolics into the spotlight rapidly. Today’s
mix includes Mike Martis crooning the Sinatra songs and Margery Bailey
who brings the look of Shirley MacLaine and the sounds of Marilyn to the
table. Another part of the pack is Andre Williams. Originally and
currently the lead singer for MC Hammer, Williams does Sammy as well as
a tribute to Nat King Cole. He even brings the house down doing Natalie
Cole
.
“Andre is just phenomenal,” Caudle boasts.
The “stars” are backed by their Lil’ Big Band, which includes Musical
Director John “Liberace” Wilder on keyboards, Kristy Reed on sax and
Bruce Turley on drums.
The show starts with the emcee of the evening, Dino, ad libbing and
warming up the crowd with the others following suit shortly after.
Caudle is well versed in this having grown up watching Martin and his
Gold Diggers.
The group works their way through the years of the rat
pack, not exclusively the 1961 Sands era which most of
the Rat Pack Tribute shows usually do. Caudle is quick to
point out that the show is more of a tribute to the style of
the music than to the artists themselves although the voices
are remarkably close to the originals.
Caudle definitely gives the impression that the Dean-O-Holics have fun
on stage. There is a good amount of clowning around although they tailor
the show depending upon if the audience is dancing or watching. Dancing
is always encouraged but if the audience is more sedentary, expect some
antics to be going on.
“We have fun with the crowd and what’s in front of us,” Caudle says.
In addition to the traditional fare, they also can mix it up with more
current music as requested. The same holds for
the jokes as they incorporate more timely material into the program.
“We try to be retro and current at the same time,” says Caudle. “I like
to think, ‘what would these guys be doing today?’ “
While the Frank Sinatra Showroom may the quintessential venue for his
group, every other Thursday they have a
standing gig with a loyal following down at Scarlett’s Martini Lounge
down in Folsom. But with their heavy
convention and private party bookings, they have been on the go,
traveling all over including an upcoming stint in
Ireland. I guess you could say that the Rat Pack is feeling the love
once again or as Dino might sing it, “That’s Amore.”
